Range of Motion

Meet my new friend – my range of motion (ROM) leg brace, giving me a lovely 50 degrees of flex. I think I’m going to call it ‘Rommy’ Today I had my follow up with my orthopaedic surgeon in Christchurch. The journey up wasn’t too bad, but the journey home was even better now that I’m in the new brace. The hardest part of the journey though is the first and last twenty metres – negotiating the very steep path through bush down to our house. Nerve racking to say the least. It’s so good to be out of […]

Lazy Sunday

As is often the case, whenever I feature one of my dogs on my journal, like Zoey yesterday,  I always feel compelled to have the other as my subject on the next day. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to feel like I’m playing favourites…. Today’s blip is of Jack, snoring away on his bed after a run down the driveway and back with Mrs H, who was driving down to put the bins out before collection tomorrow. One of the great things about having a long, steep driveway is that it offers a good opportunity for Jack to […]

Turn When Done

Zoey’s having a lazy day, happy to warm her belly basking in the sunlight while the fire toasts her back. She’ll flip over when she wants the converse… She’s also very keen to be close to me, what with me being couch bound. Mrs. H isn’t sure who snores the loudest between me, Jack and Zoey. I’ve got a horrible feeling it might be me…

Morning View

Thanks to my crutches, I’m a bit limited when it comes to shooting locations at the moment, but thankfully I can just about make it out on to the deck. Here’s the view across Canterbury this morning. The good light was fleeting, and it didn’t take long for the cloud to extinguish the sunshine.

‘Just like that’

I had a get well soon card arrive in the post today, featuring the late, great Tommy Cooper. I put it up on the table behind the couch, next to the flowers that S got me when I got home on Friday. I’ve been up off the couch again today, which is great, managing to sit on our big comfy chair with my leg stretched out on the footstool on a couple of pillows. I’m still sore of course, but each day I feel better in myself, so that’s a good thing. In case you can’t read what’s on […]

Everything on hand

Another day in recovery on the couch. Not good when you’re someone who doesn’t sit still very easy, let alone recline with an elevated leg… Ah well. The pain is being managed so that’s a good thing. I also managed to have my first shower since getting home; I’ve hired a shower bench that allows me to slide into the shower in a sitting position. Because we have a slightly raised shower tub, I can also keep my leg elevated out of the shower with my back towards the wall and spray. It’s a bit awkward as I have […]

Things are looking up…?

… Or should that be I’m looking up at things? Here’s the view looking up from the couch. As you can see we have one of those fantastic old-style airers: suspended from the high ceilings over the warmth of the log fire (supplemented by the sunlight from the celestory windows) our laundry dries in no time, even on the foulest of days. I’ve spent all day on the couch so far, only getting up when I need to pay a visit to the smallest room in the house. Keeping still means the pain in my leg is minimised. I’m […]
