In the foothills

It’s been a big day on my road to recovery today, as for the first time in seven weeks I went out in the car on my own. I drove across to the other side of Woodbury to see a new client, and on the way back took the scenic route, snaking along the backroads in the shadow of the Four Peaks range. The late morning light was striking as it came through the clouds, silhouetting this tree and the cattle beast below, so I just had to stop and shoot this with my zoom from the car. I’m […]

Fixed

I’ve been to the orthopaedic surgeon today for a follow up and X-ray. Things are looking good. The bone graft has taken well, so over the next couple of weeks I should be able to start weaning myself off my crutches as I can now bear weight on my left leg. I’m also able to remove my brace when at home. Things are starting to be a bit easier. With any luck I’ll be out with my camera again (and my new titanium hardware) very soon.

Herefords and Little Mount Peel

Today is the first time I’ve been off the property for 10 days, so it was great to experience the ‘outside world’ once more. I went in with Mrs H to the thriving mid-Canterbury metropolis that is Ashburton, as we had to get some groceries. Web Browsing on the deck

Another gorgeous day meant that I could spend much of the afternoon sitting in the sun out on the deck. I asked Mrs H to bring a lounger down from the shed, so I could recline in comfort with my braced leg elevated. Warmed by the sun with a good book, my iPad and copious cups of tea at my side, it was wonderful to have a bit of al fresco recuperation. From my lounger I also got a great view of these spider webs between the aerial pole and the downspouts. As usual my pic got photo-bombed by […]

Polluted and Populated

I managed to hop out onto the deck tonight to take some night shots. With the sky so clear, it seemed like the perfect night for it. While it was a bit of an effort, it was lovely standing out there in the cold again. The view from the deck of the galactic core of the Milky Way is looking East,  out towards Christchurch and Ashburton. Bet you can’t guess where they are in the photo…. Clear night it may be, but there’s still quite a bit of light pollution. Luckily our sky here is so dark that if […]
