Boulder Man

I’m heading South once more, off to Central Otago to experience some Big Country. On the way I stopped off at Moeraki Boulders. While I was there shooting some long exposures, this chap was posing for a guy flying a drone and doing some filming. I thought he looked quite like a superhero in a cape, hence my title. Check the extras for more from Moeraki, plus a lovely view across to the Kakanui Mountains from above Kokonga.

A Day in the Snow,, Rangitata Valley

Today we took a trip inland towards Mesopotamia to experience some High Country snow. The main picture shows some hoar frost on some riverside willows just before Turnaround Point, the remaining images shot either at Messy and the valley. The snow has now melted at home – although a stubborn piece of ice still holds on at the top of the driveway – so this was a great treat in such beautiful surroundings.

The Perfect Shoulder Bag for X-Series Zooms?

One thing that most photographers can agree on – no matter what gear they use – is that finding the ‘perfect’ camera bag is nigh on impossible. The thing that drove many people to mirrorless was the […]

A Cold Start

We didn’t get as much snow as I expected overnight, but this afternoon seems to be making up for it as flurries continue and temperatures plummet. This was the view not far from home on our way to Christchurch today. It was a slow journey as we tip-toed our way through the ice on Thompson’s Track, only to abandon our trip when the snow really started to come down at Rakaia. I’m pleased we turned back, as the snow here this afternoon is getting heavier and I would have hated to have been stuck without being able to get […]

Winter calm

Shot this morning on the outskirts of the village, looking back towards Little Mount Peel across this little pond, a favourite for a few local pukeko. As I wrote winter is making itself felt, with cold sleety showers and snow bringing a chill to our hillside. I have a feeling we’re going to wake up to a bit more snow than what’s on the lawn at the moment…

MonoMonday #181: Curves

This evening’s aerial view over the braids of the Orari River inland from Geraldine. I shot this with my Phantom 3 drone, here it’s hovering about 40m above ground level. In the extras you’ll see the view north towards Mt Peel and the Orari Gorge. Thanks to 60plus for again hosting this week’s MonoMonday
