Nice Place For A Picnic; Te Wanahu Flat

After a walk through the bush this morning, I thought I’d grabbed my shot for the day. I’m sure you can picture the scene; me, sitting on a small bench in the middle of the Dennistoun loop track, firing away with the X-T1 taking photos of fantails and the bush as light streamed through the canopy. All very nice. Bridge to the Southern Lights

For the second successive night we’ve been treated to a subtle display of the wondrous Aurora Australis.  Funnily enough, tonight I’ve been giving a talk about night photography to the Geraldine Photo Club, so on my way home I got the chance to ‘put my money where my mouth is’ by having another go at nailing a shot of the glow with the stars.  I chose a different location from last night; in fact I prefer this one so this might get the nod for more star shots. Near Midnight Special: .Aurora and Milky Way

With the witching hour fast approaching and word of an Aurora Australis filtering down off the social networks, I decided to head out of Blandswood and make my way towards Geraldine to see what was out there. Stopping on one of the gravel roads that make their way towards the Orari River, I set up my tripod. It looks like I’m the first cab off the rank for today’s MonoMonday challenge (well that does make a change!).
